Product Information

Air-o-struct Joint Filler is a closed cell polyethylene foam expansion construction joint filler specifically designed for use in brick and blockwork, isolation joints, hinge joints, deck slabs, retaining walls, reservoirs, subways, bridges, basement structures, sewage treatment works, water channels and culverts.
Air-o-struct provides two impact features:

The elasticity which is activated through its unique close cell structure.
A water resistant barrier even when subjected to conditions of unexpected expansion and contraction.
The addition of carbon black in the polymer ensures maximum UV (Ultra-voilet) stability is achieved. The excellent chemical resistant HDPE further guarantees the products performance in general and specialised structural applications.
The varying densities allows the product to be adopted to specialised applications even in areas there thermal stability is required.

Air-o-struct is readily coated with epoxy, paint and silicone sealers, where water dust proofing and aesthetics are required.
Air-o-struct Joint Filler is available in a wide range of widths and thicknesses and is available in standard roll format or in ‘zip form to tear off strips.

Description

Air-a-struck backing rod is a closed-cell polyethylene back-up cord for the use in elastormeric joint sealant applications. Flexible, readily compressible, supplied in circular cord lengths.

Application Instruction

When used as a back-up cord Air-o-struct backing rod serves both to regulate the depth of the sealing slots required and to ensure that sealants are forced against the sides of the joint during application. Air-o-struct backing rod also functions as a bond breaker at the back of the seal preventing additional stress on the sealant during movement.
The diameter of the cord should be approximately 20-25% greater than the joint width, and depressed sufficiently to provide the required sealing slot dimensions. The circular sections of the backing rod cords provide a convex face giving an optimum seal configuration. They also overcome any problem of twisting which can occur with square or rectangular sections.

Storage

There are no special storage requirements for this product, however, it should be stored in dry conditions and not left exposed to the elements for extended periods, especially in hot climates.

Precautions

There are no health hazards associated with backing rod in normal use.

Air-o-struct’s insulation sheeting concrete curing mats are made from fire retardant closed cell low density polyethylene foam, and is available in a wide range of thicknesses to suit your requirements.
